CONCERT: LAKE ME

WHEN: SATURDAY, 22. 11./ KULTURBUNKER MüLHEIM/ HALL

The duo Lake Me consists of Nathalie Stern on guitar and vocals, and Lucy Hammond on drums. Both have been writing, recording and touring their music in various bands for a total amount of 20 years. Although Lake Me started out as a guitar and vocal based solo project in 2001, the sound was made complete by the addition of drums two years later. Playing nationally and internationally, Lake Me have created a base around Europe with their bare set up. Their music draws references from Led Zeppelin to Lucinda Williams, Lungfish to Neko Case without the risk of disintegrating their unique sound. On the contrary, the songs have a distinct sound which has been derived from a diverse musical palette and assembled to provide a combination of subtle vocals and full on instrumental batterings.

CONCERT: BLOCKSHOT

WHEN: FRIDAY, 21. 11./ KULTURBUNKER MüLHEIM/ HALL

In their own words: A year ago we played our debut gig with Partyline and have since released a 7"/CD-EP entitled Polyglamorous and an album called After the Beep on F-Spin. Influenced by early Riot-Grrrls as Sleater-Kinney and Bikini Kill we try and merge the old school fierce attitude of such bands with the more quirky and innovative pop history written by bands such as Sonic Youth or Fugazi, adding a keyboard that sounds at times sinister at times nerdy to a classic rock line-up.

Essentially Post-Riot-Grrrl we feel a strong committment to the scene with some of us being involved in all sorts of socio-cultural/socio-politcal projects ranging from putting on gigs in our hometown of Bonn, Germany, doing zines, Ladyfest or feminist direct action, which is also refelcted in our lyrics and has earned us support spots for such great bands as Jenny Hoyston's Paradise Island, Rhythm King and Her Friends and Partyline.

CONCERT: GEMMA ANDREWS

WHEN: SATURDAY, 22. 11./ KULTURBUNKER MüLHEIM/ HALL

Owner of Newcastle Upon Tyne's finest Side Café, Gemma Andrews awaits with sickly-sweet countresque ballads whose natural habitat would be dingy bars

CONCERT: ZOSCH!

WHEN: SATURDAY, 22. 11./ KULTURBUNKER MüLHEIM/ HALL

German Trust Magazine appreciates them: Cologne/Ruhr area verson of Le Tigre but with the following differences: Two singers and more direct hence better. Open your heart to a band with song titles such as "You won't get it" and distiguished lyrics such as "Germany, Germany can you hear me? You won't get my friends". A member of Das Krill plays the organ in Zosch! Fluffy elctro-dance-wave-no-wave-punk.

PERFORMANCE: LYNNEE BREEDLOVE/ TRIBE 8

WHEN: FRIDAY, 21. 11./ KULTURBUNKER MüLHEIM/ HALL

About the performance:

Lynnee Breedlove’s ONE FREAK SHOW: Less Rock, More Hilarity is queer, homohop, punkrock standup comedy on transgender bodies, feminism, family, and "community." Her plan for world peace includes gender nesting dolls, cross-dressing stuffed animals, and a new edition of Our Bodies Ourselves for men.
This story touches everyone regardless of sexuality or gender. It’s about the confusion not just of society but of the individual, when he doesn’t modify himself to make his insides match his outsides. It’s about the sadness of the bicultural guy torn between warring communities, because he identifies as both. It’s about trying to label oneself to satisfy others and get love, when in fact no label seems to fit, and how the eyes of a child open the heart to simplify social constructs. It’s about parental struggles to guide and let go at the same time. It’s about our human body quest for compassion for ourselves and everyone else. It’s an irreverent, sweet look at the interior world of Lynn Breedlove, notorious punk feminist, giving out permission slips to laugh at ourselves and each other and accidentally stumble on love.

CONCERT: SUSIE ASADO

WHEN: FRIDAY, 21. 11./ KULTURBUNKER MüLHEIM/ HALL

About Susie Asado:

Susie Asado is a poem by Gertrude Stein. This Susie Asado is Josepha Conrad. She is not a poem although she likes to write them. She also likes Gertrude Stein. So much is apparent. You might know her from Crazy for Jane. You might know her from the park. You might have seen her in the movie Berlin Song. Josepha writes songs and she will sing them for you. Happily. Her songs are about geographic challenges about borders and border patrol about falling in love with border patrol and with countries and that is more than one country. She likes places such as Mexico although she has never been. She likes the word. She likes Olympia. For the O and the grandeur of it. She likes Berlin. She lives there. Her hometowns are Frankfurt am Main and Chicago and she also suffers from Chief Niwot's Curse having laid her eyes on the Flatirons of the Rocky Mountains. Yes, she is superstitious. And she drinks a lot of tea. "Sweet sweet sweet sweet sweet tea. Susie Asado." Her debut album "Hello Antenna", was released on the German label lolila this April.

CONCERT: THE GOLDEN DELICIOUS

WHEN: SATURDAY, 22. 11./ KULTURBUNKER MüLHEIM/ HALL

In their own words: We have tried to avoid writing the usual press sheet for a long time but the deflections and confusion this caused with some promoters and local reporters who could only think of the attribute sexy when confronted with an all-female band convinced us it was necessary after all. 80ies keyboard sounds mingle with indie guitar rock music. Funky stuff meets triple chirpy vocals. Live sometimes out of tune and distorted as we are cultivating disharmonies, all according to plan. The roots of our influences are all set in the eraly 80ies with the Raincoats and the Slits, maybe Malaria, maybe Sleater-Kinney. Sometimes we happen to be so cute it makes you wanna puke, a la Lassiesingers. All in all we follow the Riot-Grrrl tradition. That is the outset, then we add fun, then rock and then some seriousness behind the irony.

CONCERT: ( hooker)

WHEN: FRIDAY, 21. 11./ KULTURBUNKER MüLHEIM/ HALL

About ( hooker):

From early beginnings in 1998 - when a chance meeting in a Manchester club with a guitarist led Zoe to form the band with Danny behind the drumkit - Hooker began working up songs and quickly debuted on the Manchester circuit; the name was culled from the song 'Beauty School Dropout' from the classic flick "Grease". Mat joined on bass in 2000, and the formula was complete. Hooker are, to paraphrase Mark E. Smith, "…a working band…" regularly playing the length and breadth of these isles, establishing a dedicated, growing fanbase.

They are dynamic and focused. Their eponymous, self-released mini album has sold nigh on a thousand copies. In the past two years they have secured support slots with many of the current cream of the indie scene; Le Tigre, The Donnas, Interpol, 50 Foot Wave, Brassy and The Gossip.

CONCERT: DES ARK

WHEN: SATURDAY, 22. 11./ KULTURBUNKER MüLHEIM/ HALL

About Des Ark:

Des Ark have a rather tumultous band history under their belt. What started as a four-piece around guitarist Aimee Argote diminished into a Duo with only Tim Herzog, the ex-Milemarker drummer, on her side. They released two albums and toured the states. Herzog leaves but Argote holds on to Des Ark as a solo project. In 2007 Des Ark jump back onto the circuit with a new drummer, Ashley Arnwine and they release a split with Ben Davis and the Jetts called Battle of the Beards on Lovitt records. That same fall the company with the golden arm releases their 2005 album loose lips sink ships in Europe, which was produced by J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. and sends them on tour at the beginning of 2008. Des Ark's music sounds like crossbreeding raw noise and transparent singer/songwriter elements. Reminiscent of Shellac, PJ Harvey and Saddle Creek productions without losing their originality.

KONZERT/MATINEE: KRIKELA

WANN: SONNTAG, 23. 11./11h KULTURBUNKER MüLHEIM/ CAFÉ

Über Krikela:

Krikela mag keine Verpackungen, sie sagt, was sie sagen will, ohne viele Metaphern.
