LECTURE: QUEER THEORIES

WHEN: SATURDAY, 22. 11./ 15h/ KULTURBUNKER MüLHEIM/ GROßER SEMINARRAUM
WITH: ALVA

If riot-grrl apparently died out, other than because those involved grew up and into ladies, when mainstream media tried to appropriate it, how come a radical political and sexual identity tag such as queer is used freely to market just about anything these days? We will look at the outset of the queer movement and the theory behind queer lifestyles and then focus on how queer images have infiltrated popular culture. Is it an achievement for an underground society to have some of its spokespeople gain major success both in academia and culture and how do we feel if a secret cult is advertised by formerly DIY artists like Gossip or filmmaker Jamie Babbit to the, more or less, general public. I hope to spark interesting discussions about the need to change cultural hegemony within generally uncritical formats (like The L-Word tried to do on TV) and the impossibility to remain radical and at the same time inclusive.

LECTURE: BETWEEN RACE, CLASS AND GENDER - FEMINIST DEBATES SINCE 68 UNTIL TODAY

WHEN: FRIDAY, 21. 11./ 17h/ KULTURBUNKER MüLHEIM/ GROßER SEMINARRAUM
WITH: KÄTHE

Recently we hear a lot about “feminism is sexy” and “feminism improves your life”, “Alphamädchen” and a “neue F-Klasse” populate the feuilletons. This gives reason to contemplate: What and how is and was “feminism” after all? Did or does the “feminism” exist, against which the new one distinguishes itself? What and who did the feminist mainstream perspective of the 60`s exclude, and keep on excluding again and again until today? Since then, which (academic) debates and achievements, which amplifications of perspective, which deconstructions and which kind of critique, emerging over and over again, have coined feminist debates since then, and what does (not) pour into current discussions? What is a really new feminism supposed to look like? These questions are supposed to be discussed by a ramble through the latest history of feminism.

LECTURE: PorNO? PorYES? PorNES? About the pornography debate

WHEN: SATURDAY, 22. 11./ 16:30h/ KULTURBUNKER MüLHEIM/ GROßER SEMINARRAUM
WITH: INES

"What is a woman looking for in a porn-cinema? And for whom does she cause more confusion with her pornographic interest: for men, for other women, for herself?" Silvia Henke

In this discussion I will highlight the history of pornography from various ways of reception. The central point of reference is the censorship-debate of the 70`s and 80`s in the US and Germany as well as the feminists' dilemmas within this debate and generally regarding the phenomenon pornography. Afterwards I would like to discuss some issues: is there a possibility for alternative pornography or is all pornography rape? Is pornography always sexist?
What is pornography, after all? What kind of potential is in pornography? Are there victims of pornography, is it possible to help them, and how? How does alternative pornography look like? Am I a feminist "bad girl" when I watch pornography?

After the lecture, you have the possibility to join a tour to the women's sexshop -->"Lady's Toys" at Heumarkt, where the owner will guide you through her shop.

LECTURE: „SO WHAT' A NICE GIRL LIKE YOU DOING IN A PLACE LIKE THIS?"

GESCHLECHTERVERHÄLTNISSE IN PUNK- UND HARDCORESCENE

WHEN: SATURDAY, 22. 11./ 18h/ KULTURBUNKER MüLHEIM/ HALL
WITH: YVONNE WOLZ

WORKSHOP: HAVE SEX HATE SEXISM

WHEN: SATURDAY, 22. 11./13-15h / KULTURBUNKER MüLHEIM/ GROßER SEMINARRAUM
WITH: TORSTEN AND BINE

Here we want to discuss, if the own gender and the identity which it is linked with, is political. Where are we confronted with sexism and homophobia and how do we handle it? Which effect has the gender rate to our every day live, which to our love affairs and relations, to our political work, which effect has it to our society and to the pop-culture? When are we sticking in old roll models and do also act like it?

In the moderated discussion we want to compile questions, themes and propositions, to work with in different teams. In some questions we have some theoretical input – if you need it – in other questions we are excited to deal with your experience, analysis and assessments. Afterwards we want to talk about your conclusions in the plenum again.

Generally we believe, “If you feel like a “lady”, be part of the ladyfest!”, but in some case, a certain topic or constellation, it may makes sense to divide working groups into gender.
